Policies on Sharing Expired Certification Information Upon Request

    Hi everyone,

I'd appreciate any insights into your association's policies and practices related to disclosing certification information upon request.

For context, I received a request to provide (in writing) the official expiration date of one of our certificants' credentials. I am hoping to gain more context on common practices and policies around this type of request. Right now, we have a database that allows people to search for active certificants by name, but anyone with an expired credential is no longer searchable.

I'd greatly appreciate any insights on the following questions:

    1. Is it common practice among other associations to provide the historical renewal and expiration date when requested? If so, what is the request process? Do you require a formal/written request, a subpoena, etc.?

    2. Do your organizations have a written policy that dictates what certification information can be released to a third party (attorneys, employers, etc.), especially information beyond what is already public through a searchable database?

I appreciate any insight on how your organizations handle these inquiries.

    Thank you!

    Serena
