The ASAE PPAM4 Editorial Advisory Group is a content review team. The advisory group will review and process chapters submitted from contributing authors and provide input on what content is missing from the submitted chapter or controversial content that needs to be revised before publication.  Input will be provided using track changes.   This function is not an editing function, but rather a content overview function.

 

Advisory Group Charge:
The editorial advisory group advises the Editors on author selection to achieve an optimal range of diversity of authorship.  The editorial advisory group also advises the Executive Managing Editor and contributing authors of the PPAM 4th edition by providing a review of content submitted by authors through their lens of experience and perspective to inform the chapter’s author of recommended content revisions and desirable inclusion of content.

Editorial Advisory Group Vision:
The PPAM 4th edition will represent an inclusive view of association management leadership in all areas of the association management functions, in alignment with ASAE’s CAE content outline. 

Advisory Group Objectives
The ASAE Editorial PPAM4 Advisory Group individually advises PPAM editors in achieving these strategic objectives:

  • Development of content that aligns with the CAE Content Outline of 2020.
  • Assuring inclusive perspectives on mastery of an association management function.
  • Effectively preparing CAE candidates for certification success.
  • Propelling current CAEs to incorporate new thinking into established patterns of management.

Advisory Group Member Responsibilities

The ASAE PPAM4 Editorial Advisory Group membership is a short term (6 month) commitment of reading, reflecting, and responding to a series of questions about the content of specifically assigned chapters submitted by authors as well as initially offering recommendations on chapter inclusion and author selection. Responsibilities to fulfill this assignment include:

  • Provide a greater diversity of thinking for author selection and content covered, add to subject matter expertise, and assist with writing review questions for CAE credit.

 

  • Familiarize oneself with the PPAM3 table of contents and the Revised CAE Content Outline prior to first call between March 15-30 to enable thoughtful recommendations on
    • potential authors representing the full diversity of the ASAE community, and
    • critical chapter inclusion to optimally cover the topics included on the revised CAE Content Outline, expected for release end of February 2020.
  • Each team member should expect to be assigned to 6-7 chapters for review, each approximately 10 pages in length. The reviewer will make recommendations for revisions (between June 1 and August 15), and a provide a second review of the revised chapter (between August 30-September 15). 
  • Upon submission of draft chapters from authors, follow through on reviewing the chapter assignment in a timely manner. The work to be reviewed will have a 30-day requirement for completion for each installment.  Each chapter will be reviewed by two individuals, with one being the Executive Managing Editor and the second, a member of the Editorial Advisory Group.  The Editorial Advisory team member will provide written recommendations for revision to be submitted to the Executive Managing Editor who will ultimately communicate those recommendations to the author. 

 

Group Meetings:

  • Between March 30–April 15, one 90-minute Zoom-assisted conference call orientation and initial input on author selection for chapters requiring minimal revision.
  • Between April 15-May 1, one 90-minute Zoom-assisted conference call to determine chapter inclusion, and author selection for chapters requiring original writing or major revision.

 

Eligibility Requirements:                          

  • Experience in strategic leadership.
  • Keen interest in learning and imparting high-level content for effectively managing a large, complex, national/international association.
  • Mastery level knowledge of enterprise-wide association management and governance practices.
  • Interest in and ability to offer timely contributions to the content development of PPAM4.
  • Chief Staff Executive level of employment preferred.
