Description:

National Capital Area Workforce Development Task Force

A key role for associations is ensuring its industry's workforce is filled with talent for the future. Workforce development--the process of attracting, developing, and retaining a skilled and diverse workforce--is critical to the continuing success of any association. The national capital area presents unique benefits, as well as the additional challenges of a highly competitive labor market and high workforce expectations. Workforce development programs bridge the gap between associations looking to grow and expand, and existing and potential workers who need to develop the skills associations either are seeking now or will be seeking in the near future.

The National Capital Area Workforce Development Task Force will:

  1. Address the current and future workforce needs of the region;

  1. Create an workforce development strategy specific to the national capital area;

  • Examine the barriers and the incentives for institutions and associations to assist students and existing employees in the acquisition of new skills;
  • Recommend ways to establish a strong talent pipeline and pathways to engage the future workforce (high school students, college students, second career professionals, etc.) in association management;
  • Discuss how to improve the sharing of information about regional and statewide workforce trends to ensure job training programs are targeting the skills needed by area associations;
  1. Identify potential opportunities for additional collaboration between the local education and association communities; and
  2. Identify specific goals and objectives to promote workforce development within the national capital area, and recommend metrics to measure progress moving forward.
