Description:

The Small-Staff Associations Advisory Committee (SSAAC) advocates for associations with 9 or fewer staff (regardless of budget size). The SSAAC recommends and advises ASAE on ways to improve programs and services for small-staff association members; 
 
2024-2025 Work of the Group:

 
 SSAAC fulfills the important roles by: 
 

  • Surfacing critical issues and their implications for associations and recommending and advising ASAE on ways to improve programs and services for smallstaff-association members; 

  • Collaborating with ASAE Learning staff on the content of and thought leaders for online seminars and other learning opportunities targeted for staff of small staff associations; 

  • Advising and helping curate or develop “effective practices” resources for smallstaff associations-- for example, through a variety of online documents and ASAE communication vehicles (e.g. Associations Now, models & samples online library, Small Staff Association Professionals Community in Collaborate discussion group & library, etc.); 

  • Serving as an advocate for executing key ASAE strategic goals as they relate to the smallstaff-association professionals’ community, including promoting the smallstaff organization membership; 

  • Considering, recommending, and helping execute experiences that increase a sense of community among small-staff-organization executives—for example, via social media, Collaborate, and other means. 

Meeting Requirements: 
 

  • Virtual Orientation July 2024 

  • Virtual Kick Off Meeting July 2024 

  • In-person meeting opportunity - Saturday, August 10, 2024 in Cleveland, OH as part of the ASAE Annual Meeting 

  • Hybrid Winter Meeting- February 2025, exact date TBD 

  • Regularly scheduled conference calls throughout the term 

 

Eligibility Requirement: 
 

  • Must maintain a current membership with ASAE during the volunteer term 

  • Be a part of a Small Staff Organization (9 staff and fewer) 

  • 5+ years of association management experience 

  • Engaged in ASAE (volunteer, conference attendee, contributor, etc.) 

 

Selection Process: 
 

Not all applicants will be accepted for this committee. The selection committee is comprised of the incoming volunteer chair, the incoming volunteer vice chair, the outgoing volunteer chair, and the ASAE executive staff liaison. The ASAE staff liaison plays a supporting role in this process. The following factors are reviewed in the selection process: 

Application - Applicants should clearly define, in their application, how they can best serve on this group as outlined in the above description 
 
Additional Information: 

  • New volunteers are required to attend the volunteer group’s orientation and kickoff meeting in order to serve. 

  • Council members (or their organizations) pay their own travel expenses to attend meetings.  

 
Diversity of Voice- With support of ASAE staff, the selection committee utilizes the ASAE Board Diversity Policy and Volunteer Model to ensure the group is comprised of a variety of voices from the membership.  To support this effort, all ASAE members can log into their main ASAE account and update their information in theirASAE Profile to ensure it is complete and up to date.
