The Research Committee (RC) is a standing committee of the ASAE Research Foundation. Committee members serve a one-year term, renewable for up to three years—or longer if ascending to an advisory group leadership role). RC leaders (chair, vice chair, immediate past chair) and/or staff provide periodic updates to the ASAE ForesightWorks Advisory Group, the Foundation’s Development Committee, and other stakeholders, such as committees and councils.
Committee Charge The Research Committee supports the ASAE Research Foundation staff by providing insight, guidance, and expertise that fosters and promotes the use of research to identify effective association practices, policies, and skills. The committee supports the ASAE Research Foundation in reaching its strategic goals and ensuring the information disseminated is timely, accurate, and useful to meet the needs of associations professionals and the association community. The committee works closely with Foundation staff in the areas of research and knowledge dissemination, engagement, and application.
Committee Objectives The RC helps Foundation staff achieve the Foundation’s strategic research objectives:
Identify new and emerging areas in association management and potential implications for associations and their members.
Champion the practice of using data to inform decision-making through outreach and education within ASAE and throughout the association community.
Identify challenges in applying key findings and recommendations from various research initiatives.
Amplify lessons learned and successes in defining and applying effective practice.
Committee Responsibilities
In their applications for committee membership, candidates are asked to affirm their commitment to fulfilling these responsibilities:
Participate in the virtual orientation meeting, TBD 2024.
Participate in four 60-to-90-minute virtual meetings during the annual term.
Serve on at least one committee taskforce addressing a current strategic goal. This work will be conducted through virtual meetings, email exchanges, and various assignments.
Provide insight and thought leadership in the development and management of strategic research initiatives.
Offer advice on conceptual framework, approach, methodology, and interpretation of research findings.
Offer insights on project planning and design, vendor selection, project oversight, instrument testing, and review of manuscripts, etc.
Utilize specialized talent and skills in support of accomplishing research project goals.
Position Description
Volunteers report to the volunteer group chair regarding day-to-day activities. Volunteers must actively participate in the work of the group, provide thoughtful input to deliberations, focus on the best interests of ASAE, ASAE Research Foundation, its donors, and the membership rather than personal or constituent interests, and work toward the accomplishment of the goals as outlined by the volunteer group’s plan of work for the volunteer year as well as those described in ASAE's strategic plan.

Selection Process
Not all applicants will be accepted for this committee. The selection committee is comprised of the incoming volunteer chair, the outgoing volunteer chair, the immediate past chair, and the ASAE staff liaison.

With support of ASAE staff, the selection committee utilizes the ASAE Board Diversity Policy and Volunteer Model to ensure the group is comprised of a variety of voices from the membership.
