The 2021 Research Committee is seeking association professionals to join the 2021 AI/Automation Task Force. Interested applicants should have an interest in association research, artificial intelligence and automation and AI/automation ethics. Applicants do not need to have specific expertise in these areas, but experience in association management is strongly preferred.
The AI ethics conversation gained considerable momentum in 2020 and is now moving to a different phase, i.e., it is becoming more focused on practice than technology. Instead of articulating more ethical principles, the work of AI ethics is moving toward the development of solutions to address AI’s real-world harm and the creation of AI in responsible manner. In addition, the AI ethics conversation has become more open and inclusive of diverse voices.
The goal of the task force and research project is to guide association decision-makers toward the holistic, responsible, and ethical consideration of AI/automation’s implications, implementation, and impact. The AI/Automation Task Force will focus on making sense and making meaning around AI ethics research being done outside of the association community and develop resources for association decision-makers that synthesizes that research.
Commitment
The task force will hold regular virtual meetings, on a monthly/quarterly basis or as needed. The first task force meeting will be held in February 2021, further details will be shared.
Desired skills
Committee members should have a familiarity of the association operating environment. This task force requires active commitment and frequent contributions to reviewing AI/automation ethics resources. The committee desires a diverse and inclusive group of volunteers who bring a wide range of skills, experiences, areas of professional expertise, and career levels. Prior research experience is not necessary, but is welcome.
Level of Effort
The AI/Automation Task Force will meet regularly and will require on-going participation throughout 2021.
