Association and AMC attorney Mike Deese will present a session addressing the primary elements of successful agreements between AMCs and their clients. Including references to Section 3 of the ANSI standard upon which AMC Institute accreditation is based, the webinar will explore contract provisions including the scope of services and how to avoid “scope creep,” “hybrid” management situations, contract length options, contract termination and the effects of same, protecting confidential information, reciprocal indemnification, intellectual property issues, management company evaluations and dispute resolution.
A Little about the Presenter:
MICHAEL DEESE, a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Chicago-based Howe & Hutton graduated from Davidson College (A.B.) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.A., International Relations) and its Law School (J.D.). Mr. Deese has practiced law in Washington for many years, focusing primarily upon the representation of national and international nonprofit organizations. His work includes corporate and governance matters, contract negotiation and drafting, litigation and general counseling regarding the antitrust, tax and other consequences of client actions and programs. Mr. Deese currently serves as outside general counsel to numerous national and international trade associations, professional societies and related charitable organizations ranging in annual budget size from $150,000 to over $15 million.
Mr. Deese is a member of the Legal Section of the American Society of Association Executives, where he has served on the Editorial Advisory Committee for that organization’s legal publication, Association Law & Policy. Mr. Deese served for many years on ASAE’s Association Management Company Section Council and is a frequent speaker on legal issues at ASAE and AMC Institute conferences.
