Join this interactive World Café session hosted by ASAE’s International Associations Advisory Council to explore real-world examples and solutions.
Global associations are increasingly expected to respond publicly to world events, crises, and societal issues. But when does speaking out advance an organization’s mission—and when does it create unintended risk? In a complex international environment, frequent or reactive statements can blur strategic focus and pull organizations into politically sensitive territory.
This World Café–style conversation will invite participants to explore how global organizations can thoughtfully navigate expectations to “take a stand.” Through facilitated small-group discussions, attendees will examine real-world scenarios, share experiences, and reflect on how mission alignment, member diversity, governance, and reputational risk should inform decision-making. The session will emphasize the value of having a clear framework or policy to guide when to communicate—and when silence may be the more strategic choice.
