  • 1.  Public wifi policy to share

    All,

Looking for samples for policies anyone has re staff accessing public wifi with their devices on travel, etc. I'm trying to capture a way to handle limited, but potential, man in the middle risks, without a VPN investment since most staff are in the office or remote from their homes. How does your org handle? Are you on a VPN and if so which one and is it "always on" or do staff have to log into it? If they have to select to login, how is overall compliance by staff?

    Thanks,
    Joyce

    Hi Joyce,

We also eliminated our VPN for staff after completing the migration away from our on-premise servers to Cloud services.  One way that I deal with the risk of staff accessing public wifi when traveling is deploying Cisco OpenDNS umbrella to each of our computers under management.  This way whatever staff are doing on the internet, the traffic is reasonably encrypted and protected.  We do also train our staff to use mobile hotspots on their phones where possible instead of public wi-fi.

    Hope this helps!
