ASAE creates an "Accessibility Task Force"

No details (I haven't yet found anything published) for the official goal, how the task force will function, or who the consultant is that is leading the work along with Maunda Land.

I wrote to ask and a staff member returned the following:

"I am glad the word is out! The Task Force is comprised of 13 association members from across the membership and met on May 23rd ...but wanted you to know that the "rumors" are true and we are excited about the insights this Task Force will bring to ASAE."

So for those of you following along, there is something in place.

Tim (D&I Committee Chair) says they've hired an expert in the field to work with the task force.

Watch some spaces - not sure which/where - for an announcement about a public listening meeting with disabled members in July (virtual) and a session at Annual in person.

That's all I have for ya.

Ya'll take care of one another!

Still no word/announcement of anything about the July meeting "listening" session.

My July is pretty packed now, maybe when they announce something folks from this group can participate and represent disabled association/corporate member professionals and accessibility in our workworld.

Thanks for the reminder, @Samantha Evans, ICE-CCP, CAE. I haven't noticed anything and will consciously and conscientiously watch. Hoping it is posted in this group too.

It's July 1 Joan - I don't think they have anything planned for July.

    Hello, all!
I've had a few great conversations with members of this community over the past few months. Thank you for sharing, and helping inform ASAE's overall approach to this work!

Update on the ASAE listening sessions: ASAE will host an in-person listening session at ASAE Annual on Monday, August 12 at 2pm (local time). A virtual listening session will take place later in August (instead of July). ASAE will follow-up to confirm details.

It's important the listening session experiences are accessible for as many as possible. ASAE will also share a digital form in advance of both sessions to collect input from the community. This will provide an alternate way for those who may or may not be able to attend these sessions to provide input.

Overall, this approach should allow for more time for the community to participate. Thank you in advance for your help in providing input that will help not only ASAE but the broader community.

    Take care,
    Tim

    Jamila,

ASAE already created, invited, and formed the task force. You know as much as we do at this point.

Hi, I would be interested in joining this Task Force. Is it too late to join? I also will be attending the ASAE Annual Meeting in Clevement. I would be interested in connecting with others interested in improving the experience for those with visible and hidden disabilities. -Peter

    Peter,

I have no idea how it was formed or who was invited. There wasn't a public call for interest.

Maybe someone from ASAE that is in this group can respond to your interest.

There were dozens of long time ASAE disability advocates that would have been interested - there is no public listing of who was invited or even the goals that I've been able to find even upon asking.

Good luck, I hope they'll take you up on your interest.

Hi Samantha, I appreciate this response. I'm very new to ASAE. So, I be happy to wait and see how I may help out in any way possible.
