Disabled Association Pros & Accessibility Allies

Sometimes, people don't do anything about accessibility until it affects someone "important."

A bar association held an event in the third floor penthouse of a large law firm that was housed at the top of a multi-story building. The first floor of the office was accessible by elevator but the two higher floors only by an internal stairway.

It wasn't until someone expressed concern about a Judge arriving and not being able to get to the top floor that anything was done about accessibility. (Many bar associations bend over backwards to accommodate Judges).

No problem was encountered at that event but accessibility was adopted as a criteria for choosing sites for all future events.

As organizations begin their journey towards inclusion this is usually how awareness happens, one instance at a time.
