Description:

The Membership Section Council works to support ASAE’s professional interest section for association membership professionals; association professionals with membership responsibilities and their interactions and communications with other functional areas they work with.  This group takes on multiple projects and tasks to enhance the careers of membership professionals by improving their skill sets, value and contribution, and to foster a sense of community within the association membership professional’s community. The group’s work includes creating content on membership topics, and also distributing this content through for electronic and printed articles, webinars, virtual brown bags, peer networking, and Membership Section discussion group in Collaborate, ASAE’s online community. They also solicit, screen and present sessions to ASAE for all ASAE conferences relevant to membership, and support ASAE in new initiatives that relate to membership. This council also works with other section councils in cross-council projects.  

This group requires two face to face meetings each year at the ASAE offices in Washington, DC.  The kick-off meeting and the winter mid-term meeting.   This year’s kick-off meeting will be held on Monday, May 1 from 9:00 am-5:00 pm which is one day prior to  ASAE’s 2017 Marketing, Membership & Communications (MCC) Conference. As the council helps chose the proposals for each MMC Conference, council members are strongly encouraged to attend the conference, May 2-3. NOTE: New appointees to the council are required to attend the in-person kick-off meeting for the group on Monday, May 1 in Washington, DC. Appointments for the 2017-2018 Membership Section Council will run from May 1, 2017 to early spring 2017.

Focus for 2017-2018 include:

  • Identifying pertinent membership topic areas of focus for the 2018 MMC Conference and working with ASAE staff and other appropriate volunteer groups to select proposals and promote the conference.
  • Identify potential content leaders from outside or inside the council to submit proposals for all other ASAE conferences.
  • Identify potential content leaders from outside or inside the council to present webinars on membership topics or improve the effectiveness of membership professionals.
  • Generate topic ideas, identify content leaders and create content for resources focused on assisting association membership specialists including blog posts for Associations Now and Membership Section Virtual Brown Bag sessions.
  • Support the Gold Circle Awards program.
  • Coordinate members of the membership section and council to help ASAE analyze and categorize content using ASAE’s new online taxonomy.
  • Engage with association membership professionals of all levels.
  • Connect with and involve Membership Section members.
Support ASAE’s initiatives with ad-hoc task forces as and when needed.

Additional Information

Volunteers are responsible for covering their own travel, lodging and conference registration expenses.
